<p>Yoel Y. Haile, a native of Eritrea, was recognized for his extensive involvement with student organizations as well as his research, including his recent paper “Eritrean Youth: Histories of Student Activism, State Repression and Resistance.” Haile also received the UCSB Center for Black Studies Research Anita J. Mackey Award, along with Taisonya Tidwell and George Jefferson.</p>
