Student Rights

  • Respect: To be given courteous and considerate treatment, as well as dignity and respect.
  • Privacy: To have all of your records and data treated confidentially.
  • Speed: To receive a timely response in your requests for services.
  • Feedback: To voice a complaint or make a comment or suggestion on any aspect of our office.
  • Transparency: To an explanation of how your financial aid eligibility was determined.
    (Note: We review each case individually but apply guidelines consistently as determined by the UCSB Financial Aid Advisory Committee.)
  • Choice: To accept or decline any or all types of Financial Aid you have been offered.
  • Flexibility: To cancel a loan you have already accepted during the current academic year (repayment may apply).
  • Information: To be provided information on UCSB's policies on withdrawals and refunds.
  • Appeals: To appeal a decision made by our office or to provide us with new information.

Student Responsibilities

  • Communication: To be courteous and considerate when communicating with the Office.
  • Education: To read and understand all information provided regarding your Financial Aid.
    (Be proactive. Relying on friends for info can be risky.)
  • Accuracy: To provide accurate information (enrollment, housing, etc.) in a timely fashion.
  • Timeliness: To submit all requested documents promptly.
  • Integrity: To use Financial Aid funds only for expenses related to enrollment.
  • Deadlines: To be aware of deadlines and pay (or defer) all BARC expenses on time.
  • Academics: To make satisfactory academic progress towards your degree.
  • Repayment: To repay any loans according to the terms of your promissory note.
  • Exit: To complete an exit interview prior to leaving the University (if you have loans).
