Getting Started With Your GI Bill® Federal VA Benefits

Apply With VA For Education Benefits - Initiate an application for education benefits online VA.gov. Or if you are a continuing recipient, go online and submit a change of place request.
-
Give UCSB Your Certificate of Eligibility Letter - This document is sent to you by the VA, and you must submit it to UCSB via our online web form. This letter tells us what type of benefits you qualify for and how long they will last.
-
Apply For Regular Financial Aid At UCSB - Application is available year-round at studentaid.gov. For priority aid consideration submit it by March 2nd.
-
Set Up Direct Deposit With VA & UCSB - Make sure you set up direct deposit for your GI Bill® on VA.gov. We also recommend you set up e-refund with mybarc.ucsb.edu to receive financial aid payments electronically.
-
Submit UCSB Veterans Benefit Request Form (VBRF) Every Quarter - To receive federal GI Bill® chapter benefits you must submit a new VBRF each time you register or make a change to your class schedule.
Getting Started With Your Cal Vet Tuition Waiver

Apply With Your County Veteran Services Office (VSO) - Your local county office will determine your eligibility for the waiver program: www.calvet.ca.gov/VetServices/Pages/college-fee-waiver.aspx
-
Submit Your Authorization Letter to UCSB - We are currently accepting these via web form. Please allow at least 2 weeks for processing/approval.
-
UCSB Waives Tuition For One School Year - Fees NOT eligible for waiver are: student health insurance, campus based fees, housing. Summer per unit tuition is waived if applicable.
-
Pay Unwaived Fees By The Deadline - Your quarterly bill is paid through mybarc.ucsb.edu, and is typically due the 15th of the month prior to school starting. Or you can also apply for financial aid to help cover your expenses at studentaid.gov.
