The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is excited to introduce Scholarship Universe, a new tool for UCSB students that makes finding and applying for scholarships easier than ever before.

Log in to Scholarship Universe

Please note that incoming UCSB admits will only be able to access Scholarship Universe once they have a UCSB Net ID and password. Prospective students can find other scholarship opportunities on our Other Resources Page.

What is Scholarship Universe?

Scholarship Universe is a scholarship matching tool that helps UCSB students find and apply for both internal and external scholarships. Students are matched with UCSB scholarships they qualify for, as well as thousands of external opportunities that have been thoroughly researched and vetted, so you never have to worry about scholarship scams.

The OFAS University Scholarship Cycle for 26-27 will open in mid-July. All undergraduate students who submitted a 26-27 FAFSA or CADAA are welcome to apply.

Regardless of financial status, all UCSB students can access external scholarship opportunities in the ScholarshipUniverse site year-round.

How does Scholarship Universe work?

Scholarship Universe uses information from your student record and the questions you answer to match you to scholarships offered by UCSB, as well as vetted, external scholarships. Once you’ve started answering questions, you’ll be able to see the scholarships most relevant to you and maximize the time you spend searching and applying. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3...

  1. Log in to ScholarshipUniverse using your UCSB Net ID and password
  2. Build your profile by answering the series of questions
  3. View your matches and apply for those scholarships!

UCSB Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships Awards

All internal scholarships managed by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need. Students must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to be considered for an internal scholarship, and preference will be given to those students who complete their application prior to the March 2 deadline. Due to the limited availability of scholarship funds, nearly all scholarships are awarded to continuing students with a demonstrated record of academic achievement at UCSB.

Incoming students tell us about which scholarships they might qualify for when they complete the “Scholarship Opportunities” section in Step 2 of the online admissions application or the equivalent section of the paper admissions application. During that process, they are asked to review a list of eligibility characteristics and check off those that apply to them. This information will automatically be included in your Scholarship Universe profile, and will be used to help match you to scholarship opportunities for which you are eligible throughout your UCSB tenure.

You can apply for almost all of the internal scholarships you are eligible for with just one application! When you submit the Office of Financial Supplemental Scholarship Application, you’re able to check the box for each of the internal scholarships for which you qualify and want to be considered.

Tips and FAQs:

Internal scholarships at UCSB are awarded on a need basis. Nearly all scholarships are awarded to continuing students with a demonstrated record of academic achievement at UCSB. Here's how to be considered for these supplemental awards each year:

  1. Apply for Financial Aid:  Applying students must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).
  2. Log into Scholarship Universe in mid-July: The UCSB Supplemental Scholarship Application goes live in mid-July. Students can then log into SU and access the application by navigating to the Scholarships tab on the left side of the screen.
  3. Fill out the (very short) UCSB Supplemental Scholarship Application: The single application is linked to multiple scholarships. You only have to submit the application once to be considered for all linked scholarships. The Eva Augusta Josephi Memorial Scholarship, the only other internal UCSB scholarship, is exclusively for students who are hard of hearing.

These awards follow have slightly different rules. Some awards do require students to be enrolled full time, but awards typically are not pulled back unless the student recipient has not enrolled for a quarter when they would receive a disbursement.

These awards are for Fall, Winter, and Spring only. The scholarships awarded during the OFAS Supplemental Scholarship Cycle are awarded across Fall, Winter, and Spring quarter and cannot be moved to a summer quarter. However, upon special request, students may request that their allocation be consolidated into a single quarter.

Award amounts vary across scholarships. These 88 scholarships come from different accounts and awarding rules, so the amounts vary from year to year across all scholarships. We do our best to make renewal students’ awards meet or exceed the amount they received in the year prior.
