The Work-Study Program remains open and available to process pay for existing positions and referrals for new hires. This page hosts all guidance provided to students and to the campus regarding Work-Study processing during this time. It will be kept up to date, and all archived communications are available below.
*NEW* Spring 20 Work-Study Employment Grant and Appeal
In response to employment disruptions due to COVID-19, the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships awarded the Spring 20 Work-Study Employment Grant to students utilizing the Work-Study Program. Grants up to $500 were made to provide financial relief to students during this time.
We recognize that every situation is unique. Students who did not receive this grant or who have had additional employment disruptions can share their circumstances through a new appeal.
To appeal and to receive this grant, students must be awarded with Work-Study for the 2019-20 academic year, be enrolled at UCSB for the Winter term and be currently enrolled for the Spring term.
The appeal is available here May 8th-18th.
Work-Study Program Fully Operational
There have been no changes to the program in response to COVID-19.
Funding continues to be available to support students and in their positions.
Students are still required to be enrolled in 6 or more units to be eligible for Work-Study.
Students who have used up their Work-Study award can appeal to have it increased.
The appeal is available on the Forms section of our website and should be completed when students are approaching the maximum of their award and believe they have additional financial need. Students should submit the appeal by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Work-Study students are allowed to work remotely and remain Work-Study eligible.
Please allow your student employees to continue their existing work remotely or modify their duties to allow for remote work.
The Department of Education has provided guidance allowing Work-Study students to continue receiving their scheduled pay even if not reporting to work due to the COVID-19 response.
Students should be compensated for the hours they work or would have worked if not prevented from doing so due to COVID-19.
